Socialising in Kenora
It’s almost a completely different ball game in Kenora… going out and having a good time socially. Everyone knows everyone… there’s only two bars in town, both of which are racially segregated. I was with a friend today who I hadn’t spoken to in a while. We initially went to Shooters. The pool tables were occupied and we also saw people there who know people that I know. So there’ll probably be rumours flying around town by Monday morning about me trying to fuck this girl, or trying to fuck that girl, or having a child with X, Y and Z. Sad fuckers can’t help themselves. I wouldn’t mind so much if people’s gossip were true, but I am so far from being with anyone, physically or emotionally it just makes the gossip seem even more stupid.
I took my friend home – neither of us drank. I went back to the bar and saw my boss and Dave there. I stayed for about five minutes before I realised I had to leave. If I’m going to be out socially, being at ease is vital and I just wasn’t when I went back to Hap’s so I left.
I think it’s because the place is so racially segregated. I looked around and saw two native folk in the entire bar. Whilst Hap’s isn’t advertised as a white’s only bar, the owners don’t do anything to fix the fact that native folk don’t go there. Natives are a huge demographic in this town, and it bothers me that they don’t go there – obviously I can see why though.
Life is progressively getting better and better. Things are going good.
